Couple Gives to Serve Students

E.C. "Red" Owen's legacy has impacted numerous Simpson University students, staff and faculty.

Driven by service for others, love for his family and passion for the Lord, Red Owen was known for his honesty, reliability and strong work ethic. He helped others throughout his life - from the Oklahoma farm where he was raised, to the mines of Colorado, as a chaplain's assistant during World War II and a contractor in Portland, Oregon.

His Commitments to family and education were among his most notable achievements. Red loved to learn and to help others learn. He thrived on using his gifts and skills to teach others. Red did not have the opportunity for a university education but made it a priority for his children and grandchildren to have that option.

His commitment to education led him and his wife, Fran, to create a generous scholarship for Simpson University students who have a passion to learn and a willingness to serve God. Fran also served for many years on Simpson's Board of Trustees.

Red also enjoyed watching the church grow, both spiritually and physically. The Owen family has been instrumental in the construction of churches throughout the Pacific Northwest. Red invested on the lives of poeple with the intention that the fruit would last for eternity. Using his God-given gifts, he built a tradition - one that Simpson University is honored to continue.

In October 2004, the university dedicated its Owen Student Services Center. This three story, 45.000-square-foot building is the hub of student service activity. A gift of appreciated property from Red made this possible. You also may want to make it easy and convenient to have a bequest included in your will. The language below shows how a bequest can very easily be included in your will.
