Gordon and Gladys Waage: Gifts that Make a Difference

One piece of their generosity greets visitors to the Owen Student Services Center in the center of campus: a beautiful granite globe, held up by water pressure, that rotates on a marble base. The 7,000-pound orb includes etchings of the world's continents, with the words 'Gateway to World Service' carved into the equator.
The Waages made a designated gift to Simpson for the fountain, which was dedicated in October 2005 and became operational in 2006. Gordon Waage passed away on Oct. 24, 2006, in Canby, Ore., at age 84.
In addition to the designated gift, the Waages also set up an annuity through Simpson and a student scholarship fund. Their daily prayers for Simpson also were noted by former President James M. Grant during the 2005 fountain dedication.
The Waages' son, Ken, graduated from Simpson in 1968, and their daughter, Carolyn, in '72.
